by Charles Rice Goff III
1 The Case Of The Cut Down Cut Up
2 Post Characteristic Crayon Daub
3 Fleshy Fuliform Vilok
4 Homichlophobia (Fear Of Fog)
Some Notes:
1 "The Case Of The Cut Down Cut Up" is a mystery full of intrigue and dangerous encounters, featuring the character: Charles Goff III, dramatized in dripping psycho-autobiographical paranoiac fiction. This recording was originally created for the Sample Science Moon Zero Four project and first appeared as an online internet post at Tapegerm (tapegerm.com) on September 25th, 2014.
Sound Sources:
Audio Loops By Sample Science from Moon Zero Four Tapegerm Project-7, Various Television Media, Lo Fidelity 1987 Disism Recording, Car Door From Mike Metlay's 1996 Toyota Avalon. No rights are reserved.
2 "Post Characteristic Crayon Daub" was composed entirely through MIDI recordings that Goff played from a Korg R3 Synthesizer/Vocoder into Midisoft Music Mentor MIDI Composing computer software. Goff further manipulated the notated MIDI phrases with Cool Edit Pro sound editing software.
3 "Fleshy Fuliform Vilok" is an attempt to emulate some of the moods and atmospheres of the 1970's film: "La Planete Sauvage (Fantastic Planet)" by Rene Laloux (director) and Alain Goraguer (soundtrack). This recording was originally created for the Jack Hertz "Fantastic Planet" project and first appeared as an online internet post at Tapegerm (tapegerm.com) on September 9th, 2014.
Sound Sources:
Nine Audio Loops By Jack Hertz, Natural Reader Voice Emulator, Janus Professional Sound Library, Carmelita Goff (vocal), Cows Of Deanna Rose Farmstead (vocal), Passing Automobile (8/15/2013). Goff Plays: Korg R3 Vocoder/Synthesizer (used for intro/outro only), Witch Hazel Woodwinds, Octavia, Sound Effects, Editing, Production.
4 "Homichlophobia (Fear Of Fog)" was created in response to a challenge by Jack Hertz of Aural Films (auralfilms.bandcamp.com) to make a "fog music" recording for a series of theme albums that he was producing. Rather than attempting to realize an audio synesthesia of the physicalities of "fog," Goff attempted to emulate in sound the nightmarish psychological experiences spawned by fog, as it erases the physical world's familiar guideposts from people's sight. Hertz rejected Goff's piece, saying:
"The voices and other sounds are throwing me way off. I keep thinking of a zoo or zombies marching. As hard as I try to frame this up, its just not coming across as sonic fog. That is the aim here, to create your own fog with sound, NOT how fog makes you feel."
So here the piece rests on its own, outside of the Aural Films "Fog Music" series of recordings, but proudly public and ready to stimulate listeners with its disturbingly eerie qualities.
Sound Sources:
Woodwinds, Flutes, Shakers, Clickers, Clackers, Bells, Harmonicas, Tambourines, Animal Calls, Voices, Korg R3 Vocoder/Synthesizer, Boss RC-20XL Loop Station Loop Duplicator, Diane The Mannequin Hand. Recorded June 19th, 2014.
Each of these recordings was created by Charles Goff III in the Taped Rugs Productions studio, Kansas City, Kansas, during mid-2014. This album is available in hardcopy form as a cassette or CDR.
